Introduction

The Elephant and Castle is a unique place that’s had many reinventions in its fascinating past. In its heyday in the early 1900s, it was known as the Piccadilly of south London - a centre for shopping, entertainment and culture, with a strong sense of local community.

Over time however, this vibrancy has been eroded, with the area gradually becoming overwhelmed by traffic and undermined by poor quality development.

Now though, things are looking up again for the Elephant and Castle, thanks to a major physical regeneration programme that is already well underway. Southwark Council is leading this programme, joined now by its commercial partner Lend Lease. This major transformation will see the Elephant and Castle regain its place as a thriving destination area in London.

A lot has been written about the Elephant and Castle regeneration. This website aims to make things easy for people wanting to find out what’s happening, who’s doing what and where you can go to get involved and find out the information you need.
