Framework For Development
In June 2006, Southwark Council won a prestigious international masterplanning award for the Elephant and Castle framework for development at the Building Exchange Symposium.

Promoting the shopping centre
Jointly with the traders and St Modwen, the owners of the shopping centre, Southwark Council organises and co-funds a number of major promotions, which are designed to maintain public confidence in, and loyalty to, the shopping centre. This has included Christmas events, summer holiday events and promotions and a major celebration of the centre’s 40th birthday in spring 2005.
