Home. The Elephant and Castle

5 December 2007

A fascinating book of photographs of Elephant and Castle residents and their homes has just been published by the London College of Communication.

This vividly designed and richly printed book contains 105 photographs reflecting the diversity of people and cultures within the Elephant. These images are varied, often surprising and capture celebratory images of the life of a young family, photographs of the locations used by homeless people living in the subways, upbeat street portraits of Latino youth and gritty images of drug usage.

Also included are portraits of some of the original residents of the Aylesbury Estate, residents of Harper Road flats preparing to leave their homes, and portraits of a group of Tibetan Buddhists who have completely refurbished a Victorian bathhouse in Manor Place, Walworth.

‘Home’ features photographs by MA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography students at the LCC, and is part of the college’s continuing project to record the regeneration of the area.  Home is the first in a series of publications that will be produced over the next decade.

Copies of Home can be purchased via post by sending a cheque for £10 (including postage & packing) to:
