Engaging and consulting with local people is one of the cornerstones of the regeneration programme. At every stage, the aim is to move forward based on a broad consensus.
The process began in June 2003 with a three-month consultation on the draft development framework. An innovative and comprehensive programme of events, newsletters, focus groups, market research and exhibitions was launched to find out what local people and industry experts thought of the proposals – more than 80 per cent of those who responded to our surveys were in support of the programme.
Since then, the council’s commitment to consulting and involving key stakeholders has continued, with an ever expanding programme of regular and one-off activities designed to keep all residents and stakeholders engaged and informed.
