Other Initiatives

Other community engagement and consultation initiatives include:

  • annual market research surveys to test local opinion;
  • targeted consultation on specific projects, like the St Mary’s Churchyard landscaping, for example;
  • an Elephant and Castle website, with the latest information on developments;
  • the Elephant and Castle newsletter, now in its tenth edition, distributed to 50,000 homes;
  • information leaflets;
  • Renaissance – a 10,000-word book telling the story of the Elephant and Castle regeneration;
  • the Eco-pod – an information centre near the Fusion Leisure Centre used for special events and also featuring 24-hour video presentations;
  • a permanent exhibition at the Elephant and Castle shopping centre;
  • work with the local, regional and national media, to ensure comprehensive press coverage of the project.
  • Summer walks programmes and a local walks booklet to encourage people to find out more about, and visit the area
  • Working with the council’s Community Involvement and Development Unit to enable clear communication with the area’s black, minority ethnic, and marginalised groups
