Ecopod arrives at the Elephant

On Monday November 27 the Elephant and Castle Ecopod officially opened to the public. Situated outside the Fusion
Leisure Centre, the Ecopod provides information and highlights proposals for the London Cross River Tram to Southwark residents and passers by.

Cross River Tram is a new Transport for London transport scheme that will link north and south London, providing improved access to Central London for Southwark residents as well as a greener method of transport with shorter journey times. The tram proposals are currently out for public consultation and more information can be found at www.tfl.gov.uk or www.connectingsouthwark.com.

Ecopod

Created from a recycled shipping crate, the Ecopod is a bright new exhibition space powered entirely by renewable
sources of energy. Films and information are projected on to the outside of the pod, which is illuminated at night in striking
hues of red, blue and yellow.

The official launch and opening was attended by key Southwark opinion formers, including Cllr Richard Thomas, executive member for regeneration, and Chris Horn, project director for the Elephant and Castle regeneration programme.

The Ecopod will eventually be available for community use and more information will be posted on the website about this soon.
