Hundreds visited the 5-day long exhibition at the Elephant and Castle shopping centre over the past week where they viewed a computer generated movie showing how the area will look in ten years time.
The exhibition at LCC on Friday and Saturday officially launches the Elephant Impacts project, which has made physical improvements to the Elephant and Castle over the last eighteen months. This includes major refurbishment and feature lighting of railway bridges, feature lighting of local buildings such as the Metropolitan Tabernacle and the LCC, tree planting, subway lighting upgrades, and the installation of striking tree lights in the central Elephant and Castle area.
The Elephant Impacts programme is funded by Elephant Links regeneration partnership through the London Development Agency. The programme was carried out in partnership with a range of local stakeholders including the London South Bank University, London College of Communication and London Borough of Southwark. The programme is designed to visibly improve the area ahead of the forthcoming £1.5 billion makeover.
Residents can visit the Elephant Impacts exhibition at LCC from 10am to 5pm on both Friday and Saturday where Southwark staff will be talking about regeneration in the area.
Martin Smith, director of the Elephant Links SRB programme, said:
“The Elephant Impacts scheme has helped make the Elephant and Castle a more pleasant place for the people that live and work in the area in the short term. We have received fantastic feedback from residents towards the scheme.”
An exhibition of the Elephant and Castle regeneration plans continues this week at the London College of Communications (LCC).
